We really had so much fun teaming up with Atomic Spark to capture photos and videos of the stories of people living with dementia for Hamilton Council on Aging! We rolled up to Andrea’s house late in the afternoon and started setting up our gear. The sun was starting to go down enough that there was some nice shade in her backyard.  She showed us around the place and it became clear that she loved working on artwork and relaxing on her patio. So we decided to photograph her in a way that would emulate that.  Using a single light with a softbox on it and balancing it out with the ambient we captured these images below. Part of the campaign was to tell people’s stories and paint a larger picture of who a person is other than their dementia diagnosis.

Andrea’s story reminds us all that people living with dementia are people first.

Her key message? Just be kind. Being kind can go such a long way in helping people feel included and supported, no matter where you are. 😊
